Hardened criminal killed in encounter with UP STF in Barabanki

Barabanki (UP), May 21 (UNI) A hardened criminal, leader of the Pasi gang, carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest, was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday, STF sources said here.
Sources said that on April 24, a house owner Shivdeen was shot dead by thieves when he resisted their robbery in Dhannipurwa of Umari Begamganj village in Karnailganj area of Gonda.
"One of the accused Sonu Pasi alias Bhurre who shot and killed the house owner Shivdin was killed in an encounter with the STF in Gonda on May 19," they said.
Sources said the STF was looking for Sonu's accomplice, Gyan Chandra Pasi.
"On Wednesday the STF got information about the presence of criminals in the forest near Lohti Jai village near Chaukaghat, after which a trap was laid," they said.
Sources said that as the criminals started running, Gyan Chandra fell down upon receiving a bullet injury, but his two other accomplices fled from the spot. "Gyan Chandra was sent to Community Health Centre Ramnagar from where he was referred to the district hospital. He died on being brought to the district hospital," they said.
Sources said the STF team recovered a 12 bore rifle and a dozen cartridges from the spot.
"Gyan Chandra, who had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest, was active in the crime world for 30 years. He had about 70 cases, including that of murder, robbery, theft and ransom, against him," they said.
