IFS officers explore tourism, export possibilities in UP

Lucknow, May 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Tourism and a delegation of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers on Thursday came together here for an in-depth orientation on the state's rich tourism landscape and development initiatives.
At a special session in the Directorate of Tourism auditorium, Special Secretary Isha Priya and Director of Tourism Prakhar Mishra welcomed the officers and delivered a detailed presentation. The discussion covered the 12 Tourism Circuits of the state, the UP Tourism Policy 2022, recent initiatives and much more.
The IFS officers appreciated the efforts of the Tourism Department, particularly the organisation of familiarisation (FAM) trips designed to highlight key tourism offerings of the state and shared several valuable suggestions to further strengthen the state's tourism ecosystem.
The meeting explored the possibilities of making the state's tourist destinations more attractive and accessible through integrated planning. The officers, currently serving in various countries, also shared their experiences.
The officers said UP is home to a wide and diverse range of tourism destinations and they are fully committed to showcasing these sites on the global stage. They acknowledged the remarkable infrastructural development and world-class services now available to international tourists and commended the ongoing efforts of UP Tourism.
The IFS officers were briefed extensively about the UP Tourism Policy and were requested to support the promotion of UP Tourism in whichever country they are posted. They were informed that the state has been regularly participating in international trade fairs and expos, promoting its tourism offerings through dedicated pavilions.
As part of their Mid-Career Training Programme, the IFS officers were also briefed about major initiatives such as the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the Buddhist Circuit and the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, along with other cultural and religious destinations. Besides, they were informed about ongoing efforts for tourism development, cultural preservation and building a positive image of UP on the global stage.
The IFS officers who attended the event included Saumya Gupta, Ved Prakash Singh, Rahul Kumar Rakesh, Dharmendra Singh, Gaurav Gupta, Vivek Singh and Ananya Agrawal. They said that UP is emerging not only as a destination for spiritual and historical tourism, but also as a rapidly growing global tourism hub.
The officers stressed the need to focus on experiential tourism that provides immersive, culturally rich and relaxing experiences for inbound travellers. Besides, they highlighted the importance of strengthening and promoting the state's MICE infrastructure, positioning UP as a premier destination for both business and leisure tourism.
Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh said, "With its unique cultural, spiritual and natural heritage, UP has emerged as a globally appreciated tourism destination. This reflects not only the state's rich historical and religious significance but also its growing global recognition. The valuable suggestions and insights provided by the IFS officers will be translated into concrete actions for the betterment of the sector."
