Over Rs 134.57 cr sanctioned for 61 tourism projects in the last two years: UP minister

Lucknow, May 21 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government is working towards comprehensive tourism development across the state under which lesser-known destinations in each assembly constituency are being brought into the spotlight on the tourism map, a minister said on Wednesday.
State's Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said in the past two years, a total of 61 projects have been sanctioned under the Chief Minister Tourism Development Partnership Scheme, with a cumulative allocation of over Rs.134.57 crore.
He said the government is consistently striving to give new direction to tourism development in the state.
"As part of this effort, lesser-known sites of historical, cultural and religious significance are being prioritised for development. The aim is to give a new dimension to the state's tourism sector. These efforts are expected not only to increase tourist footfall but also to generate new employment opportunities for the local population.
"The department also believes that these projects will contribute to the preservation of local culture and heritage, thereby enhancing the identity and importance of these tourist sites," he said.
Singh said, "The CM Tourism Development Partnership Scheme aims to identify one key location in every assembly constituency and develop lesser-known sites with strong tourism potential into high-quality tourist destinations. Our objective is to attract tourism service providers to these selected locations and ensure the provision of basic facilities for tourists and pilgrims."
He said under the scheme, 50 percent of the funding comes from the project proposer and the remaining 50 percent is provided by the tourism department.
"Besides elected representatives, proposals can be submitted by any eminent or capable individual, or by government/semi-government, non-government institutions or organisations. Besides, urban local bodies, village panchayats from their own funds, as well as management committees/trusts of mythological, spiritual, and religious sites or renowned CSR entities can also submit proposals," he said.
The Minister said that in line with this initiative, a total of 42 schemes were implemented in the financial year 2023–24, with around Rs.116.51 crore sanctioned for these projects, which are currently being executed on the ground. "For the financial year 2024–25, 19 projects worth around Rs.18.06 crore have been approved," he said. UNI AB SSP
