IMD warns of hailstorms, 60 kmph winds in Punjab, Haryana on Oct 14-15

According to the IMD's evening weather bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are likely at isolated places across the region from October 13 to 15.
The weather department said isolated to scattered rainfall was likely on October 12 and 13 before intensifying on October 14 and 15. Dry weather is forecast over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from October 16 to 18.
The warning follows substantial rainfall across several parts of Haryana and Punjab during the preceding 24 hours.
According to rainfall observations recorded until 8.30 am on Monday, Ismailabad in Haryana's Kurukshetra district received 8 cm of rain, the highest reported in the Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi meteorological subdivision, followed by Guhla in Kaithal district with 7 cm.

The IMD said hailstorms and strong winds could damage standing crops, horticultural plantations and vulnerable structures. Falling tree branches could also disrupt electricity and communication lines.
Farmers have been advised to shift harvested produce to safer places or cover it with tarpaulin sheets and provide support to horticultural crops and vegetable plants.
The department also advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees and stay away from electrical installations during lightning.
