Telangana: Sangareddy chemical factory explosion death toll rises to 12, 30 injured

Hyderabad, June 30 (UNI) A massive explosion in the chemical reactor at Sigachi Industries in the Pashamylaram industrial area of Telangana's Sangareddy district claimed 12 lives and left 30 others injured, 12 of them critically, this morning.

According to police, a chemical reactor exploded, triggering a fierce fire that gutted significant portions of the factory. The blast was so powerful that it flung workers up to 100 meters away. At the time of the incident, around 108 workers were reportedly on duty.

Five workers died on the spot, while seven others succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Emergency services, including 11 fire tenders, rushed to the site and managed to bring the blaze under control. The explosion also caused extensive damage to the manufacturing and administrative blocks of the facility.

Due to toxic chemical fumes and the intensity of the blast, surrounding areas were evacuated as a precaution. Officials warned that the death toll could rise further given the critical condition of several victims.

Sangareddy District Collector Praveenya and SP Paritosh visited the site and are overseeing relief and rescue efforts. Authorities suspect that more workers may be trapped inside, prompting anxious family members to try entering the premises. A scuffle broke out as police prevented them from doing so, adding to the tense atmosphere.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha visited victims undergoing treatment at Dhruva and Pranam Hospitals and assured their families of full government support.

“The government will bear the entire cost of treatment and ensure that no victim is denied care,” the Minister stated, while instructing health officials to remain stationed at hospitals until recovery efforts are complete.
