Polish PM Tusk meets Shivakumar, explores Karnataka business ties

Bengaluru, Oct 23 (UNI) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar here on Friday, leading a delegation of around 100 business leaders to explore investment and collaboration opportunities in the state, particularly in technology and other high-growth sectors.
The meeting assumes significance as Poland seeks to deepen its economic engagement with India, with Karnataka's strong information technology ecosystem offering potential avenues for partnerships in IT, communications, space technology and industrial innovation.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge and other Cabinet ministers were also present at the meeting.
Poland's Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski had earlier underscored the scope for expanding bilateral trade and business cooperation, highlighting the presence of Polish IT and space industry representatives in the delegation accompanying Tusk.
The delegation's Bengaluru visit is aimed at strengthening engagement with India's information and communications technology (ICT) sector and identifying opportunities for Polish companies to work with Indian businesses.
Domanski said the delegation had held important discussions with Indian political leaders and business representatives, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and was keen to expand cooperation with Indian companies.
Economic ties between the two countries have recorded substantial growth, with bilateral trade rising 192 per cent from USD 1.95 billion in 2013 to USD 6.36 billion in 2025. The trade balance has largely remained in India's favour.
India's major exports to Poland include textiles and apparel, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, electronic machinery, engineering goods, vehicles, rubber and mineral fuels. Imports from Poland comprise machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment, mineral fuels, precious metals and stones, precision and medical instruments, and aerospace-related products.
The visit provides an opportunity for Karnataka to strengthen its engagement with Polish businesses and explore mutually beneficial partnerships in technology, advanced industries and innovation.
