CPI MP writes to President over Bharat Mata carrying RSS flag

CPI MP writes to President over Bharat Mata carrying RSS flag

Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (UNI) CPI Rajya Sabha MP P Sandosh Kumar has written to the President of India relating to the recent controversy over displaying of a photo of Bharat Mata carrying a flag used by RSS in its functions at an event held at Raj Bhavan.

In his letter, the CPI MP has expressed concern over the Governor’s unilateral decision to display a particular version of the Bharat Mata image during the Environment Day event at the Raj Bhavan in Kerala — without any consultation with the elected state government.

This led Kerala Agriculture Minister P. Prasad to boycott the function.

"This is not an isolated case. Governors in several states are increasingly behaving like political agents of the BJP-RSS, openly defying the constitutional framework that demands neutrality, restraint, and respect for elected governments," said the CPI MP.

"The Communist Party of India strongly condemns the repeated misuse of gubernatorial authority in opposition-ruled states and calls for the immediate recall of Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar for violating constitutional norms and undermining federal values," the MP's letter read.

The letter also highlights that such actions may be in violation of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

The CPI Parliamentary Party has demanded that the President intervene urgently in this matter and ensure that the dignity and neutrality of the office of the Governor is restored.
