TN: NHRC issues notice to DGP, Thoothukudi Collector over attack on SC student

Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu), Mar 25 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued notices to Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) and the Thoothukudi District Collector calling for a detailed report within four weeks over the assault on a Class XI student, belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) by some upper Caste boys in Thoothukudi district.
The NHRC, in an official release, said it has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported assault on the SC student by some upper Caste boys in Thoothukudi district.
Reportedly, the incident happened when the victim onboard a bus was travelling to appear for his exam. He was dragged out of the bus by the perpetrators and assaulted with a sickle, severing his fingers from his left hand. The father of the victim who reportedly tried to intervene was also assaulted.
