Cyclone: Kakinada SP visits Uppada coastal villages, urges residents to move to safety

Kakinada, Oct 27 (UNI): Kakinada Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav, along with a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team, visited coastal villages in Uppada on Tuesday and urged residents to move to safer places in view of the approaching cyclone.
The district has been experiencing heavy rain accompanied by strong winds since Tuesday morning.
The cyclone is likely to cross the coast near Yanam on Tuesday night, officials said.
The SP directed police personnel to coordinate with the Revenue and Disaster Management departments to evacuate fishermen's families and other residents from coastal areas to safer locations.
He said two SDRF teams and two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams had already been deployed for relief operations in cyclone-prone mandals.
Madhav later visited cyclone relief shelters and reviewed the facilities being provided to evacuees.
He said the police department was fully prepared to assist people in vulnerable villages and respond to emergencies.
He advised the public to contact the police emergency number 112 or the control room numbers 94949 33233 and 94905 19298 for assistance.
Special Branch DSP K.V.V. Satyanarayana and Uppada Kothapalli Sub-Inspector G. Venkatesh accompanied the SP during the visit.
