OCF Avadi receives Appreciation Letter from Suriname Def Ministry

Chennai, June 28 (UNI) The Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) at Avadi in Chennai, the oldest
military uniform manufacturing unit, has received an appreciation letter from the Defence Ministry
of Suriname for supply of military uniforms of highest quality and in a record time.
The OCF is a premier production unit under the Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU).
It dispatched a consignment of over 4,500 military uniforms for the friendly nation, the Republic of Suriname, under the Government of India’s Defence Diplomacy Fund.
A defence release here today said for the meticulous manufacturing and the successful supply,
the OCF Avadi has been honoured with a letter of appreciation from the Defence Minister of the Republic of Suriname, Ms. K.Mathoera.
The letter commended OCF Avadi for its outstanding professionalism, efficiency, and timely delivery of 4,500 sets of military uniforms to the Suriname Armed Forces.
OCF Avadi was formerly under the Ordnance Factory Board. Following the Government of India’s decision to corporatize 41 Ordnance Factories into seven Defence Public Sector Units, the OCF
Avadi became a unit under the TCL.
Later, the OCF Avadi diversified into advanced defence gears such as body armours, bullet-resistant jackets, ballistic helmets, fire retardant clothing for industrial purposes and bulletproofing of vehicles for defence and civilian purposes.
As part of a bilateral cooperation initiative, the Government of India decided to supply 4,500 sets
of military uniforms to the Republic of Suriname. The task was entrusted to the TCL, which in turn
delegated the responsibility to the OCF Avadi, known for its superior quality, timely execution, and domain expertise.
The OCF Avadi swiftly developed a fabric blend of cotton, viscose, and polyester in a digital camouflage pattern. Upon receiving approval from the Suriname Army for both the fabric and
the uniform design, the factory completed the order in record time.
The dispatch was ceremonially flagged off by its General Manager B.S. Reddy on January 28
this year.
In her letter dated June 9, 2025, Minister Mathoera praised the OCF Avadi for its meticulous manufacturing, smooth coordination, and adherence to tight delivery schedules. She expressed
hope for further collaboration in strengthening defence ties and fostering international cooperation.
The General Manager in his message to the workforce, congratulated the team for achieving the international milestone and expressed confidence in OCF Avadi’s emergence as a global leader
in battlefield uniform supply.
While OCF Avadi has previously been lauded by India’s top Army officials, this is the first time it
has received an appreciation letter from the Defence Minister of a foreign nation.
