National workshop on Cytogenetics concludes

Kochi, May 7 (UNI) The two-day national workshop and hands-on training on Cytogenetics, organized at Amrita Hospital, has been concluded here on Wednesday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Prem Nair, Provost & Group Medical Director of Amrita Hospitals, and featured hands-on training in various steps of Karyotyping and FISH.
It also highlighted recent advancements in cytogenetic techniques, emphasizing their role in diagnosing major chromosomal abnormalities. Real-time analysis and demonstrations of selected cases were also conducted.
Dr. Vidya Jha, Chief of Advanced Centre for Clinical Genomics and Cytogenetics and the Organizing Secretary of the workshop, delivered a session Practical Application of Cytogenetics and Microarray and Key Performance Indicators of a genetics lab.
Over the course of the workshop, participants that included clinicians, pathologists, scientists, and postgraduate medical students from across the country engaged in discussions on emerging technologies, clinical applications, and ethical considerations in the field.
Dr Sheela Namboothiri, Clinical Professor and Head, Dept. of Pediatric Genetics, highlighted the importance of cytogenetics in diagnosing genetic disorders and in genetic counselling through case-based insights.
The event also featured a quiz session on Cytogenetics. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants by Dr. Prem Nair.
