T'gana: Governor calls for water conservation, protection of natural resources

Hyderabad, Oct. 18 (UNI) Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today called upon people to conserve water and protect natural resources, saying the future of coming generations depended on safeguarding the environment.
Addressing the Saddula Bathukamma celebrations held at Tank Bund in Hyderabad, the Governor described Bathukamma as a symbol of Telangana’s cultural heritage, women’s empowerment and reverence for nature. He appreciated the women who had preserved the unique tradition across generations.
Expressing concern over below-normal rainfall and the possible impact of El Niño, he warned of a potential water crisis and urged people not to wait until shortages intensified to take conservation measures. He stressed the importance of rainwater harvesting, constructing percolation pits, protecting ponds and replenishing groundwater.
The Governor also advised farmers to adopt agricultural practices suited to local climatic conditions and cultivate crops requiring less water. He emphasised that water conservation was the responsibility of every citizen, not merely the government.
Drawing inspiration from Bathukamma, he urged people to work collectively to protect nature and water resources for a secure and prosperous future. He also extended greetings to the people on Bathukamma, Navaratri and Vijayadashami, wishing happiness, peace and prosperity for every household.
