Greater Bengaluru Governance Act to be implemented from May 15

Bengaluru, May 14 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will implement the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, from Thursday, replacing the existing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Act of 2021, and ushering in a new civic structure aimed at decentralised urban governance.
As per the provisions of the new Act, the sprawling BBMP will be divided into multiple municipal corporations, each with its own administrative machinery, in a bid to ensure more responsive and efficient civic management.
Describing the reform as a "long-needed" step, Karnataka Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning, Dinesh Gundu Rao, said the new governance model was essential to meet the challenges of a rapidly expanding metropolis.
