Bengal boy who came to Kerala after leaving home reunited with parents

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19 (UNI) A 14-year-old boy from West Bengal, who came to Kerala after leaving home following a disagreement with his parents, was safely reunited with his family through the timely intervention of the Malappuram District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee and Child Helpline.
The boy, a native of Paschim Medinipur district in West Bengal, left home on June 19 along with four friends after his parents asked him to stop using a mobile phone and concentrate on his studies. The group reached Kozhikode and later stayed in a rented accommodation at Vazhayur in Malappuram district.
As the boy was unable to continue working there, he contacted the Child Helpline on 1098 on July 4 and sought assistance. Following a location check, the Child Protection team rescued him from Vazhayur on July 5 after finding him in a highly vulnerable situation.
On the orders of the Child Welfare Committee, the boy was admitted to the Government Children's Home at Thavanur, where he was provided counselling and psychological support.
A social investigation report subsequently found that the boy's family was facing financial difficulties. Considering this, an official team accompanied the child to West Bengal entirely at government expense. He was handed over to his parents in the presence of the Paschim Medinipur Child Welfare Committee.
The boy returned home with his parents expressing his desire to complete his education and secure a good job.
