Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) Maganti Gopinath, the sitting BRS MLA from Jubilee Hills constituency, passed away in the early hours of Sunday after battling a serious illness.
He was 62. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
Gopinath was admitted to AIG Hospital in Gachibowli on June 5 after complaining of severe chest pain. He suffered a cardiac arrest and, despite being revived with CPR and receiving intensive treatment, remained unconscious and passed away at 0545 hours today.
Gopinath’s political journey began with his tenure as Telugu Youth President from 1985 to 1992. He entered the Assembly in 2014, winning the Jubilee Hills seat as a TDP candidate by defeating Majlis Party's Naveen Yadav.
Later, he joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and secured consecutive victories in the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections, defeating Congress candidates P Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Mohammad Azharuddin, respectively.
His hat-trick of wins solidified his position as a key political figure in Hyderabad.
Known for his active role in party activities, Gopinath was regarded as a dynamic leader who significantly contributed to the BRS's organisational strength in the city.
