Ponnam Prabhakar demands apology from Amit Shah over remarks on Telangana formation

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (UNI) Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday demanded that union Home Minister Amit Shah apologise to the people of Telangana for his alleged insulting remarks on the formation of the State and its martyrs.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, he said Congress leaders from Telangana were heading to Delhi to participate in a protest on Saturday under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, with the slogan “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor”, against alleged electoral irregularities and attempts to undermine democracy.
Questioning Amit Shah's proposed visit to Hyderabad on November 2, Ponnam asked whether the Home Minister had the moral right to visit Telangana without apologising for his remarks on statehood. He also questioned the BJP's failure to fulfil its earlier promise of “one vote, two states”.
The Minister alleged that the BJP was resorting to backdoor tactics after failing to achieve its electoral targets and accused the Election Commission of deleting eligible voters. He said democracy must be protected and criticised the Centre over alleged irregularities in electoral processes and other institutions.
Ponnam also demanded a caste-based census of Backward Classes along with the general census, asking BJP leaders Bandi Sanjay, K Laxman and Eatala Rajender to clarify their stand on the issue. He said the population of SCs, STs and OBCs must be accurately enumerated across the country.
He further questioned Amit Shah's focus on Telangana, stating that the union Home Minister should address issues such as tensions in Manipur and alleged Chinese incursions in the northeastern region. He said representatives of different political parties in Telangana were also coming together to submit a letter to Amit Shah on the BC census demand.
The Minister asserted that Congress had always respected democratic values and the Constitution, irrespective of electoral victories or defeats.
