CPI leader Ramakrishna slams Modi, Bhagwat over remarks against opposition

Hyderabad, Oct 21 (UNI) CPI National Secretary K Ramakrishna on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over their remarks during Vijayadashami celebrations, accusing them of targeting the opposition instead of addressing public issues.
In a statement issued here, Ramakrishna condemned allegations that opposition parties, students and youth protesting for their rights were backed by foreign powers. He also criticised the leaders for opposing demands seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged large-scale deletion of voters from electoral rolls.
Ramakrishna alleged that the BJP-led NDA government had weakened democratic institutions, undermined secular values and encouraged divisions along religious lines for political gains. He claimed that attacks on minorities had increased since the NDA came to power and accused the government of pursuing a divisive agenda while failing to fulfil its election promises.
Demanding the resignation of the BJP-led government, the CPI leader alleged that it had favoured corporate interests, fostered corruption and failed to address key public issues during its 12 years in power.
He called upon democratic and secular forces to unite to protect the Constitution drafted under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and strengthen the struggle for democracy and secularism.
