Technology alone cannot solve agrifood business challenges: Experts

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 9 (UNI) Experts at Bio Connect 4.0, the International Life Sciences Industries Expo and Conclave, on Friday stressed the need to bridge the gap between technological advancements and business requirements in the agrifood sector, pointing out that inadequate infrastructure, high transportation costs and post-harvest losses continue to undermine farmers’ profitability.
Speaking at a session on ‘Innovations for Food Security and Sustainability (Agrifood)’, they said that while technology had improved food processing capabilities, it had not adequately equipped farmers and other stakeholders to address business challenges across the value chain.
The experts highlighted the need to establish innovation clusters and projects closer to farms, enabling agricultural produce to be handled, stored and marketed efficiently while ensuring better returns for stakeholders. They also pointed to the high energy and export costs arising from inadequate infrastructure for the movement of products.
