Kakinada: AP Dy CM seeks permanent solution to Uppada coastal erosion, reviews cyclone relief measures

Kakinada, Oct 30 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Friday directed officials to prepare comprehensive plans for a permanent solution to coastal erosion and the protection of fishermen habitations in Uppada Kothapalli mandal of his Pithapuram constituency.
Interacting virtually with Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav and residents of coastal villages from his camp office at Tadepalli, he reviewed the post-cyclone situation, damage caused and relief measures taken up by the administration.
Pawan Kalyan said temporary measures taken after every natural calamity would not provide a lasting solution and asked officials to prepare proposals for protecting coastal fishing communities from recurring disasters.
He also sought proposals on the feasibility of providing insurance coverage to fishing boats.
He said he would visit the affected fishermen villages after Deepavali and study their problems in detail.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the Collector to expedite the preparation of designs and the detailed project report (DPR) for the Uppada coastal protection wall and explore the possibility of taking up the works at the earliest.
He also sought early approval of proposals for extending the coastal protection wall up to Konapapapeta.
He asked officials to take immediate steps to restore the badly damaged Uppada-Kakinada Beach Road and expedite restoration of electricity supply in areas where power poles were uprooted due to strong winds, including Bhogapuram, Narasingapuram, Chitrada SC Colony, Mallam and Viravada.
On relief measures, he directed officials to supply 25 kg of rice to residents of submerged villages and 50 kg each to fishermen and handloom workers, along with dals, edible oil, onions, potatoes, sugar and other essential commodities.
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the district administration for evacuating more than 10,000 people from 92 coastal villages and shifting them safely to 102 rehabilitation centres.
He also lauded officials for pumping out seawater from Suradapeta, Mayapatnam, Kothapatnam and Naicker colonies within 24 hours of receiving complaints.
He appreciated the services rendered by the Police, Revenue, Municipal Administration, Electricity and Medical and Health departments during the cyclone.
Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Commissioner Krishna Teja, APEPDCL CMD Prudhwi Teja and senior officials of various departments attended the video conference.
