Young Indian archers bag 9 medals in Archery Asia

Singapore, June 20 (UNI) A youthful Indian contingent capped off a memorable campaign at the Archery Asia Cup 2025 (Stage 2) here on Friday with a rich haul of nine medals, including two gold, six silver and a bronze, underlining the depth of emerging talent in the sport.
In a standout performance, the Indian women’s compound team of Tejal Salve, Shanmukhi Naga Sai Budde and Tanishka Nilkumar Thokal set a new Under-21 world record by tallying 2101 points in the qualification round, surpassing their own previous mark of 2076 set in 2023. The trio went on to win silver, narrowly missing out on gold after a 232-232 tie led to a 29-26 shootoff loss to Malaysia.
India’s Kushal Dalal, continuing his impressive run from the Bangkok leg, clinched gold in the individual men’s compound final, defeating Australia’s Joshua Mahon 149-143. Sachin Chechi added a bronze in the same event, edging out Bangladesh’s Himu Bachhar 148-146.
In an all-Indian women’s compound final, Tejal Salve edged out Budde 146-144 for the gold, while Budde and Dalal later teamed up in the compound mixed team final but fell short against Kazakhstan 153-155, earning silver.
India reached five of the six team finals and contested two of the four individual gold medal matches, a strong showing by a contingent made up entirely of Under-21 archers, in the absence of senior stars like Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Deepika Kumari.
The men’s compound team of Dalal, Ganesh Thirumuru and Mihir Nitin Apar settled for silver, going down 231-235 to Kazakhstan. In recurve, Vishnu Choudhary and Vaishnavi Babarao Pawar finished runners-up in the mixed team event, losing 6-0 to Indonesia. The men’s recurve team of Choudhary, Paras Hooda and Juyel Sarkar also won silver, falling to Japan by the same margin in the final.
With over 200 archers from 21 countries in action, India’s performance — especially the record-breaking effort by its women’s compound team — signals a bright future for Indian archery on the international stage.
