India unleash batting blitz to set Pak 212-run target in Asian Games gold clash

Nisshin, Oct 3 (UNI) India unleashed a breathtaking batting assault to post 211 for six against Pakistan in the Asian Games men's T20 gold medal clash here on Saturday, with Abhishek Sharma's whirlwind 61 and Tilak Varma's stunning unbeaten 51 powering them to a formidable total.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, India overcame the loss of wickets in the middle overs to finish with a ferocious late charge, leaving Pakistan needing 212 to seize the gold medal.
Abhishek set the tone for the onslaught, smashing seven sixes and three fours in his 28-ball 61. He raced to his half-century in just 20 balls, repeatedly taking Pakistan's attack apart before Arafat Minhas outfoxed him with a quicker delivery and Usman Khan completed the stumping.
Prior to him, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hammered two sixes in the second over before departing for 15, after which Abhishek took over, hitting Saim Ayub for a four and sixes in successive overs.
Sanju Samson's brief stay ended at two, but Abhishek and Shreyas Iyer kept India moving before Minhas struck again, dismissing Abhishek at 93.
Pakistan briefly appeared to have regained control when Ishan Kishan fell for 20 and Shreyas Iyer for 21 in quick succession, reducing India to 133 for five.
But what followed transformed the innings.
Tilak and Shivam Dube launched a brutal counterattack, adding 62 off just 30 balls. Dube smashed two sixes and two fours in his 15-ball 27 before Ahmed Daniyal ended the partnership in the 20th over.
Tilak then took the final over apart.
He launched Daniyal for back-to-back sixes, the second taking India past 200, before sprinting back for a single off the final delivery to complete a sensational 22-ball 51 not out, striking at a staggering 231.82 with three fours and four sixes.
The closing assault saw India plunder 57 runs from the final three overs, turning a competitive total into a formidable one.
Pakistan's Arafat Minhas finished with two for 25, while Ahmed Daniyal claimed two for 43. Saim Ayub conceded 47 from his four overs.
India's 81-run powerplay had provided the foundation, but the decisive acceleration came at the death, with Tilak and Dube first and Tilak alone thereafter ensuring India crossed the 200-mark.
Pakistan now face the daunting task of chasing 212 for the Asian Games gold, while India stand 20 overs away from claiming the title in one of the most high-profile cricket contests of the Games.
