Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Riding high on six consecutive victories, five-time champions Mumbai Indians will look to seal a playoff berth with a seventh straight win as they face Gujarat Titans in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Hardik Pandya’s men have rediscovered their championship rhythm, demolishing Rajasthan Royals by 100 runs in their last outing and dominating at home with four wins from their last five games at the iconic venue. A win here will not only avenge their earlier loss this season to Gujarat but also propel them to the top of the points table.
In contrast, Gujarat, led by Shubman Gill, are grappling with a weakened bowling attack. Despite a 38-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous match, the absence of key bowlers and inconsistent form from senior pacer Mohammed Siraj leaves their attack vulnerable against Mumbai’s formidable batting lineup.
Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav have led the charge with the bat for MI, while the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult has delivered with the ball. Karn Sharma’s spin has also proved valuable in the middle overs.
Gujarat will rely on Gill and Sai Sudharsan to provide a solid start, with Jos Buttler, Washington Sundar and Shahrukh Khan expected to power the middle order. However, their bowlers face a tough challenge on what is expected to be a flat, batting-friendly Wankhede pitch.
Gujarat have won four of their last five meetings against MI, but form and conditions favour the home side. The toss is likely to play a crucial role, with teams traditionally preferring to bowl first at this venue.
The match will begin at 7:30 PM IST under clear skies and warm conditions.
