Woman Grand Master Sahithi Varshini wins praise from SAAP Chairman Ravi Naidu

Tirupati, Sept 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority (SAAP) Chairman Ravi Naidu on Sunday congratulated young chess player Sahithi Varshini on securing her third and final Woman Grandmaster (WGM) norm at the IM VII Round Robin Chess Tournament in Serbia.
With the achievement, the 19-year-old player has fulfilled all the requirements for the prestigious WGM title.
According to Ravi Naidu, completing all three WGM norms at the age of 19 reflected Varshini's talent, determination and sustained efforts.
He said her achievement on the international chess stage had brought recognition to Andhra Pradesh and would inspire young chess players in the state and the country.
At the tournament in Serbia, Varshini scored six points from nine rounds to finish second.
She also recorded a performance rating of 2408 and gained 23 rating points.
The SAAP Chairman said her performance had showcased the sporting talent of Andhra Pradesh at the international level and would encourage the State Government and SAAP in their efforts to promote and nurture sporting talent.
He expressed confidence that Varshini would achieve further milestones and bring greater recognition to Andhra Pradesh and India.
Ravi Naidu also hoped that her success would provide fresh impetus to chess in the state and motivate more young players to take up the sport and excel at national and international levels.
