Arctic Open: Sindhu, Tanvi advance as India endure mixed opening day

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu made a winning start to her Arctic Open 2026 campaign, beating Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in straight games on Tuesday, but India had a mixed opening day at the BWF Super 500 tournament in Vantaa.
The sixth-seeded Sindhu needed just 28 minutes to beat Zhang 21-8, 21-11 and move into the second round. Sindhu, who reached the quarterfinals at the Asian Games 2026, will next face Japan’s Riko Gunji.
Sindhu took control early and never allowed Zhang, who came through qualifying, to settle. She raced through the opening game and maintained her grip on the match in the second.
