Badminton: HS Prannoy, Tanvi Shama lead depleted Indian challenge in Korea

Seoul, Nov 2 (UNI) The experienced HS Prannoy and rising star Tanvi Shama will spearhead the Indian challenge in the absence of some of the seasoned stars at the Korea Open 2026 badminton tournament, scheduled to start on Tuesday.
The BWF Super 500 tournament will be played at the Jinnam Stadium in the Republic of Korea.
HS Prannoy, a World Championships bronze medallist and former world No. 6, will lead India's men's singles campaign after Lakshya Sen - the Hylo Open champion last week - withdrew from
the tournament, according to olympics.com.
However, world No. 38 Prannoy has struggled for form this season having made it beyond the second round just once across 14 BWF tournaments this year. His best finish came at the Vietnam Open in September when he made it to the semi-finals of the BWF Super 100 tournament.
Prannoy is India's sole entry in the men's singles and is scheduled to take on Asian Games bronze medallist Yoo Tae-bin of South Korea in the opening round.
In the women's singles, Tanvi Shama and Anmol Kharb are India's two entries in the main draw. Tanvi Shama will be eyeing her second title of the season after winning a maiden BWF World Tour crown at the Taipei Open earlier this year.
Malvika Bansod and Ashmita Chaliha, winner of the Korea Masters this year, were also a part of the women's singles draw before withdrawing.
Arjun Reddy Pochana-Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu are the only Indian men's duo in the tournament and will begin their campaign in the qualification rounds.
Ritika Thaker-Sonali Singh and Dhruv Rawat-Maneesha K are India's only representatives in the women's and mixed doubles main draws, respectively.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu (2017) and the country's top men's doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty (2023) are among the past Indian badminton players
to have won the Korea Open.
