Hong Kong Sixes turns it up to six for bigger 2026 edition

Hong Kong, Oct 3 (UNI) The Hong Kong Sixes is back; and bigger than ever. The iconic six-a-side cricket tournament will return from October 30 to November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, bringing together 12 international teams, which includes the recently announced strong Indian cricket connection and a new community carnival designed to make the tournament a celebration both on and off the field.
Just like in 2024 and 2025, the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 has also awarded the prestigious M-Mark Status by Major Sports Events Committee. The "M" Mark System aims to encourage and help local "national sports associations" and private or non-government organisations to organise more major international sports events and nurture them into sustainable undertakings.

Among the key attractions this year will be the Hong Kong, China men's team, featuring all the players who represented Hong Kong, China in its men's campaign at the recent Asian Games,
giving the home crowds to witness an opportunity to build on its performance on the international stage.

India will also be among the 12 teams competing for the Hong Kong Sixes title, alongside cricketing powerhouses including Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, setting up three days of fast-paced cricket featuring some of the sport's most exciting names.

With a 34-year legacy, the Hong Kong Sixes brings international cricket to a format built for speed, big hitting and entertainment. The 2026 edition will add to that experience with an expanded Community Fan Park, featuring cricket, music, food, family activities and interactive experiences.

Supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club Community Sixes Programme will also take cricket into schools and communities through participation programmes and community carnivals, making the Sixes a celebration that extends beyond the boundary.

After winning the Plate Championship in 2025, Hong Kong, China will return with ambitions of challenging for the Cup Championship on home soil.

Defending champions Pakistan will meanwhile look to extend their remarkable record at the tournament and claim a record seventh Hong Kong Sixes title.

The 12-team field has been divided into four pools:
Pool A: Australia, England, Hong Kong China
Pool B: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland
Pool C: India, Pakistan, UAE
Pool D: South Africa, Afghanistan, Oman

The top team from each pool will advance to the Cup Semi-Finals, with second-placed teams progressing to the Plate Semi-Finals and third-placed teams competing in the Bowl Competition.

The Hong Kong Sixes retains the format that has made it one of cricket's most entertaining short-form competitions.
Each team fields six players, with six overs per innings. Bowlers generally deliver one over each, while the wicketkeeper and one designated bowler are exempt from the restriction, allowing one player to bowl two overs. The result is a format built around quick scoring, aggressive batting and constant momentum - with little room for teams to settle into a traditional cricketing rhythm.

The tournament will have a significant Indian audience, with the Hong Kong Sixes being broadcast in India through Sony Sports. For JSW Sports, the partnership also marks an opportunity to be part of a historic international cricket property with a strong legacy among Indian fans.

Divyanshu Singh, CEO, JSW Sports, said, "The Hong Kong Sixes marks JSW Sports' first step into international sporting properties, and we couldn't have asked for a better one to begin with. It's a tournament with a 34-year legacy and a special place in the hearts of Indian cricket fans. Broadcast live to audiences worldwide, the Sixes is a truly global marketing platform. Together with Cricket Hong Kong, China, we want to bring heritage, world-class cricket and a format built for entertainment to new audiences, and help shape the Sixes into one of the most exciting events on
the global cricket calendar.”

A major component of this year's tournament is the continued support of its Official Community Partner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, which is funding the Jockey Club Hong Kong Cricket Sixes Community Programme riding on the M-Mark event.

The Programme aims to make cricket more accessible to the wider community by providing opportunities for underprivileged groups and persons with disabilities to experience and watch the game live with explanation and guidance from trained volunteers. It also promotes cricket to youth at local schools through the delivery of Master Classes by professional coaches and members of the Hong Kong

A key attraction will be the Cricket Sixes Community Zone, which features interactive games and cricket-themed activities. Open to the public free of charge, the zone will allow newcomers to discover and participate in various aspects of the game in a fun and welcoming environment.

Burji Shroff, Chairperson, Cricket Hong Kong, China, said, "The Hong Kong Sixes are not just
a celebration of cricket; they are a celebration of our community, our shared passion for the sport, and of Hong Kong itself."

Wilfred Ng Sau-kei, GBS, MH, JP, Chairperson of the Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) in Hong Kong, said: "Following the success of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes last year, we are delighted to support the event once again. The tournament helps enhance Hong Kong's global standing as a major sporting destination while fostering sporting culture and community pride. Events like this generate sports tourism and economic benefits for our city."

Anuraag Bhatnagar, Director of Marketing and Commercial, Cricket Hong Kong, China, said,
"With cricketing legends and emerging stars participating from around the world, the level of
talent on display will be exceptional. We expect the quality of cricket and excitement to reach
new heights. With Sony Sports as our broadcast partner, we anticipate a strong television and
digital audience. This is not only a major cricket event but also an outstanding opportunity to showcase Hong Kong to the world."
