TN crushes Uttarakhand by an innings and 66 runs, skipper Sai Kishore bags six wkts, including a hat-trick

Chennai, Oct 20 (UNI) Skipper and leftarm spinner Sai Kishore bagged six wickets, including a hat-trick, as hosts Tamil Nadu trounced last year semifinalists Uttarakhand by an innings and 66 runs in less than an hour after lunch on the third day of the Elite Group-D Ranji Trophy cricket match at the M.A.Chidambaram stadium here on Tuesday.
Another leftarm spinner Ajith Ram played the supporting role to perfection claiming four wickets, as the duo spun a web around theUttarakhand batters, skittling them to 113 all out in 45.4 overs to fashion a dominating win.
Sai Kishore, who led from the front, returned with a match haul of 10 for 74, adding to his 4 for 40 in the first innings.
Tamil Nadu collected seven points, including a bonus point for an innings victory, to take its tally to eight from two matches, while Uttarakhand remained at 3 points and was pushed to the fifth spot in the point table. Tamil Nadu would be facing Railways in their third round match here from October 26 to 29.
After conceding a 179 run first innings lead, Uttarakhand faced a herculean task on a wicket that had good bounce and offered assistance for the tweakers. The top order and middle order batsmen got starts, but they failed to sustain it and succumbed to the guiles of the home team spinners.
When the third day's proceedings began after a delay of 15 minutes due to early morning rains, Uttarakhand, resuming at 9 for one in seven overs, managed to keep the TN pacers and spinners at bay, albeit for a brif while. However, two quick wickets by Ajith Ram removing both the overnight batsmen Dega Nischal (25, 61 balls, 3x4) and skipper Kunal Chandela (16, 52 balls, 1x4) in two overs, pegged the visitors back.
Jagadessha Suchith (14, 2x4), Avneesh Sudha (18) and Lakshya Raichandani (19, 2x4, 1x6) got starts, but failed to build on as Uttarkhand collapsed from 91 for 4 in 37.4 overs to 113 all out, losing their last six wickets for 12 runs in eight overs.
When the lunch was taken after the fall of Avneesh Sudha in the last over (91 for five), it was all over when play resumed as Sai Kishore ran through the lower order removing Lakshya, Saurabh Rawat and Aditya Rawat off successive balls in his 14th over to complete a hat-trick.
Then he added one more in his next over to complete a six-wicket haul, before Ajith Ram sealed the win getting rid of Mayank Mishra (12) for his fourth wicket, as the contest ended inside three days and a day to spare.
