Gill's extraordinary 2026 ODI run gathers pace with 110 against West Indies

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 27 (UNI) Shubman Gill's extraordinary run in ODIs in 2026 gathered further momentum on Sunday as the India skipper smashed a fluent 110 against the West Indies in the opening ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium here.
Gill, who has been piling up runs with remarkable consistency this year, struck 13 fours and a six in his 108-ball innings before Roston Chase ended his stay at the crease.
His sequence of ODI scores in 2026 now reads 56, 56, 23, 84*, 154, 80*, 31, 77 and 110 — a remarkable run that has seen him repeatedly turn starts into substantial scores.
Gill's latest hundred-plus knock took his 2026 tally to 674 runs in nine innings, at an extraordinary average of 112.33. He has also registered two centuries and seven scores of 50 or more during the period.
The Indian captain had been given an early life when Keemo Paul dropped him on 11, but Gill made the West Indies pay heavily for the lapse.
He reached his century in 30.1 overs with a beautifully timed drive off Jayden Seales, removing his helmet and acknowledging the crowd's applause.
Gill eventually fell attempting to hit Chase for another maximum. He went down on one knee for a slog-sweep but failed to clear deep midwicket, where Jewel Andrew completed the catch.
The dismissal ended another imposing innings, but not before Gill had once again underlined the extraordinary consistency that has defined his ODI campaign in 2026.
At the fall of his wicket, India remained firmly placed, with Virat Kohli joining the innings and looking to carry forward the platform created by the Indian captain.
