Ruturaj doubtful starter, Dhoni may lead CSK against DC tomorrow

Chennai, Apr 4 (UNI) Five time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper
Ruturaj Gaikwad appeared to be a doubtful starter for tomorrow key IPL match
against Delhi Capitals, raising the possibility of iconic M S Dhoni handling the
mantle.
Ruturaj had picked up an elbow injury and was being monitored, though he was
seen batting at the nets.
During the pre-match press conference, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey
hinted at a possible leadership change for tomorrow's clash as Ruturaj Gaikwad
picked up an injury while facing Tushar Deshpande in the previous match against
Rajasthan Royals (RR).
"I don't think we've actually thought about that [captaincy] too much. Well, I haven't
thought about it too much. I'm sure Stephen Fleming [CSK head coach] and Rutu
have thought about that. But we've got some young guy coming through. He's
behind the stumps. Maybe he can do a good job. I'm not sure. He's got a bit of
experience in the role, so maybe he could do it. But I'm not exactly sure, to be
honest", Hussey said, while maintaining the suspense factor on whether it will
be Dhoni.
If Ruturaj was not avaiable, CSK might look for a stand-in captain for the afternoon
clash.
On Ruturaj's recovery, Hussey said, “ Yeah it (elbow) has been a little bit sore, but
it’s improving every day, so we’re very hopeful that he’ll be fine tomorrow for the
game.”
“We would take a call as to how he bats in the nets today. If he doesn’t play, I'm not
sure who will lead", he said.
However, there is a strong chance that a young wicket-keeper might fill in,” he added.
Will the young wicket-keeper mean the iconic Dhoni, who last led the team to a
record fifth title in 2023, remains to be seen, or it will be any other player.
