Dubey's nine-wicket haul, batting milestones highlight eventful Ranji day

Nagpur, Nov 3 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh spinner Harsh Dubey produced a sensational nine-wicket haul to put his side in a commanding position against Vidarbha, but captain Akshay Wadkar led a spirited counterattack with a century to prevent a collapse on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A encounter here on Tuesday.
Dubey returned remarkable figures of nine for 53 to bowl out Madhya Pradesh for 209, putting Vidarbha in a commanding position before the hosts fought back from 87 for six.
However, just when Madhya Pradesh appeared poised to secure a substantial first-innings advantage, Wadkar and No. 10 batsman Nachiket Bhute produced a determined lower-order resistance that transformed the complexion of the match.
The duo added a century partnership to take Vidarbha from a precarious 87 for six to 262 for seven, frustrating the Madhya Pradesh bowling attack and reviving their hopes of gaining a first-innings lead.
Bhute played a career-best innings of 97, falling agonisingly short of his maiden first-class century after being caught just three runs away from the landmark.
Wadkar continued his impressive resistance at the other end, reaching his 13th first-class century. He was unbeaten on 98 at tea before retiring not out.
Vidarbha eventually moved to 334 for nine, taking more than 100-run first-innings lead and turning what had looked like a one-sided contest into a competitive battle.
Dubey's nine-wicket effort remained the standout bowling performance of the innings, but Wadkar's century and Bhute's career-best knock ensured that Madhya Pradesh could not fully capitalise on their early dominance.
Bengal were bowled out for 143 in their first innings. Mohammed Shami struck twice in successive deliveries to remove Prithvi Shaw and Digvijay Patil, while Mohammed Kaif dismissed Ankit Bawne. Maharashtra recovered from 102 for seven to reach 207 for nine, with Tanay Sanghvi unbeaten on 57, taking a 64-run lead.
Punjab strengthened their position with 483 for six. Salil Arora scored 144, his fourth consecutive century, while Sanvir Singh remained unbeaten beyond 175. The duo added 272 runs for the sixth wicket after Punjab had slipped to 71 for five.
Pradosh Ranjan Paul struck a brilliant 208 to help Tamil Nadu reach 467 for six. Resuming on 138, Paul completed his second double-century of the season, while B Indrajith contributed 51.
Chinmay Sutar continued his remarkable run with another century as Mizoram reached 307 for three in reply to Arunachal Pradesh's 285. Sutar had earlier scored 35 and 99 on debut, followed by an unbeaten 400 and 125 in his next two matches.
Baroda were dismissed for 355, with debutant Manan Solanki scoring 50. Left-arm spinner Kartik Yadav claimed three wickets. Uttar Pradesh reached 114 without loss, with debutant Adarsh Singh unbeaten on 63 and Madhav Kaushik on 43.
Mumbai were bowled out for 396, with Shams Mulani scoring 71 and Akash Anand contributing 52. Himanshu Sangwan continued his impressive bowling performance, while Railways began their reply.
Delhi reached 120 for three in reply to Services' first-innings total, with Priyansh Arya scoring 58. Delhi trailed by 146 runs at lunch, with captain Ayush Badoni and Ayush Doseja at the crease.
Karnataka lost Mayank Agarwal for 72 after he struck 10 boundaries. Karnataka were still ahead by 101 runs, with KV Aneesh and Karun Nair looking to extend the lead.
Tripura recovered from 28 for five to post 268, with Manisankar Murasingh scoring 42, Sentu Sarkar 46 and Bikram Debnath remaining unbeaten on 61. Saurashtra were struggling at 22 for four in their first innings.
Gujarat reached 333 for five, with Urvil Patel unbeaten on 82. He shared a 144-run sixth-wicket partnership with Vishal Jayswal.
Uttarakhand were well placed after Haryana's first-innings total of 153, with the former building a substantial response. Rajasthan were dismissed for 78 in their first innings, with Himachal Pradesh taking advantage of the batting collapse.
Chhattisgarh posted 284 in their first innings, with Hyderabad building their reply. Puducherry posted 385 in their first innings, while Jammu and Kashmir began their reply. Jharkhand were building their first-innings total against Odisha, with their middle order at the crease.
Nagaland posted 254 in their first innings before dismissing Meghalaya for 144, establishing a first-innings lead. Sikkim posted 432 in their first innings, putting Manipur under pressure in their reply.
