Indian skeet shooters draw blank at ISSF Worlds, miss LA Olympics quotas

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) India’s experienced men's and women's skeet shooters endured a disappointing day at the ISSF World Championships today, failing to reach the individual medal rounds and finishing outside the podium places in both team events.
The results also ended India's hopes of securing an Olympic quota for the 2028 Los Angeles Games through skeet. The setback came a day after Jaypal Malviya's silver medal in the men's 10m air pistol had given the country a much-needed boost following a difficult campaign.
Leading the men's team was 51-year-old Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan, who has more than three decades of experience in the sport. He finished 46th among 113 shooters after scoring 118 out of a possible 125.
Anantjeet Singh Naruka, an Asian Games medallist this year in Japan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill fared better, both registering scores of 119. They finished 25th and 24th respectively. India's combined score of 356 placed the men's team sixth.
The Indian women also missed out on the individual medal round, with Ganemat Sekhon leading the country's challenge. She scored 118 to finish 13th, while Parinaaz Dhaliwal managed 115 for 23rd place and Raiza Dhillon shot 114 to finish 32nd. Their combined tally of 347 placed India fifth in the women's team standings.
Later, the 10m air pistol mixed team event, featuring India two pairs — Suruchi Inder Singh and Jaypal Malviya, and Sainyam and Ravinder Kumar will be in action. However, the mixed team event does not offer Olympic quota places, which are awarded only in individual competitions.
