Hyderabad, Oct 14 (UNI) Around 2,200 police personnel have been deployed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal for the fourth T20 International cricket match between India and West Indies, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made to manage an expected crowd of 40,000 spectators, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi said.
Police have identified parking facilities for around 8,000 vehicles, including 4,600 four-wheelers and 3,400 two-wheelers, and advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance and use public transport wherever possible.
Personnel from the traffic, intelligence, Special Operations Teams, bomb detection squads, SHE Teams and other specialised units have been deployed. Ten Armed Reserve platoons and 10 Telangana Special Police platoons will also be pressed into service, she said.
Four plainclothes police teams will monitor activities inside the stadium, while an officer of Assistant Commissioner of Police rank will supervise security around the players' dugout and other restricted areas.
The stadium and its surroundings will be monitored through 408 CCTV cameras connected to a control room, while two drones will be deployed for aerial surveillance, crowd monitoring and traffic management, the Police Commissioner said.
Police will also monitor social media platforms to identify fake ticket sellers, fraudulent booking links and websites targeting cricket fans.
The movement of players and team officials from Banjara Hills to Uppal via Panjagutta, Begumpet, Tarnaka and Habsiguda will also be regulated, she said.
Five SHE Teams will be stationed at strategic locations to prevent harassment of women spectators, while special teams will monitor suspected drug-related activities around the stadium.
Spectators have been advised to purchase tickets only through authorised sources and avoid suspicious online links. Route maps and QR codes providing information on parking and stadium access will be shared through official police social media accounts.
Police have also written to the RTC and Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities requesting additional services and extended operating hours to facilitate the return of spectators after the match. Telecommunication service providers have been asked to enhance network capacity around the stadium to manage increased mobile phone usage during the event.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Metro Rail, in a release, urged cricket fans to use the Metro to avoid post-match traffic congestion. The last train from Stadium Metro Station will depart at midnight on Thursday, according to the release.
Passengers can board at Stadium or NGRI Metro stations and alight at their respective destinations, the release added.
