KL Rahul’s blazing 127 lifts India to 349/7 after early collapse against WI

New Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) KL Rahul produced a scintillating unbeaten 127 off just 86 balls to pull India out of early trouble and power them to 349 for seven in 49.5 overs against the West Indies in the third and final ODI at the PCA International Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.
Rahul walked in with India reeling at four for two after Jayden Seales dismissed captain Shubman Gill for one and Virat Kohli for a first-ball duck.
But what began as a wobbly Indian innings was transformed into a formidable total, with Rahul launching a late assault that yielded 10 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 147.67.
At the other end, Rohit Sharma played the anchor before narrowly missing out on a second consecutive century. Rohit made 92 off 85 balls, striking 10 fours and three sixes.
Rohit and Ruturaj Gaikwad rebuilt the innings after the early setbacks, adding 137 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by Keemo Paul for 92.
Gaikwad continued to provide stability and reached a composed 57 off 69 balls, with one four and four sixes, before falling to Seales with India on 160 for four.
Rahul then took responsibility for driving the scoring rate upwards.
He combined with Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar as India accelerated through the middle and death overs.
Dhir struck a brisk 30 from 21 balls, including three fours and two sixes, while Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed nine from 16.
Kamboj, making his ODI debut, added valuable late runs with a 17-ball innings before being run out by Alzarri Joseph. His 17 included two sixes.
Rahul's most destructive phase came towards the end, as he repeatedly found the boundary to take India close to the 350-mark.
He brought up his century in emphatic fashion and remained unbeaten when the innings ended, while Gurnoor Brar was not out on eight from six balls.
India added 99 runs from the last 10 overs, turning a precarious 250 for six into 349 for seven.
For the West Indies, Seales was the standout bowler, finishing with three for 62 from his 10 overs. Paul claimed two for 69, while Gudakesh Motie took one for 67.
The West Indies' bowlers had made a dream start when Seales struck twice in successive deliveries to remove Gill and Kohli.
Gill, who had scored a double century in the second ODI, lasted only six balls before edging Seales to Shai Hope.
Kohli followed immediately, bowled for a golden duck as Seales ripped through his defence.
Rohit and Gaikwad then ensured that the early damage did not turn into a collapse.
The third ODI is being played as a dead rubber, with India having already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the first two matches.
The match is also being used by India to assess players beyond their established core, with Kamboj handed his ODI debut.
India won the toss and elected to bat at the PCA International Cricket Stadium, Ground A, New Chandigarh.
The West Indies now face the task of chasing 350 to avoid a clean sweep, while India will look to complete a series whitewash after another strong batting display.
