Shai Hope's 162 powers WI to five-wicket win n series finale

New Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) Shai Hope produced a sensational unbeaten 162 off 143 balls as West Indies chased down India’s target of 352 with five wickets in hand in the third and final ODI at the PCA International Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.
Hope's masterclass, laced with 17 fours and three sixes, powered the West Indies to 352 for five in 48.2 overs, handing India their first defeat of the series after the hosts had already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead.
The West Indies skipper anchored the chase through a series of crucial partnerships and remained unbeaten at the end as Gudakesh Motie finished on 19 off 14 balls.
The visitors made a confident start despite losing John Campbell for 10 to Mohammed Siraj in the fifth over. Hope then joined Amir Jangoo to launch the recovery.
The pair added 109 runs before Jangoo was run out for 67 off 56 balls, having hit five fours and a six. Hope, however, continued to dominate and kept the required run rate under control.
Sherfane Rutherford contributed 24 off 25 before falling to Naman Dhir, leaving West Indies 206 for three after 30 overs.
Keemo Paul made 44 off 35 balls, including five fours, as the pair added 65 runs for the fourth wicket. Paul was dismissed by Gurnoor Brar with West Indies on 271.
Matthew Forde made seven before Kuldeep Yadav removed him, but the West Indies remained firmly in control.
Motie then joined Hope and finished the chase in style, scoring 19 off 14 balls, including two fours and a six.
Hope's innings was the centrepiece of the chase. He paced his knock superbly, combining caution during the rebuilding phase with aggressive strokeplay as the target came within reach.
West Indies needed 352 for victory and reached the target with 10 balls to spare, finishing on 352 for five in 48.2 overs at a scoring rate of 7.28.
For India, Siraj was the most economical bowler, taking one wicket for 52 runs in eight overs. Kuldeep Yadav claimed one for 62, while Gurnoor Brar and Naman Dhir also took a wicket apiece.
Anshul Kamboj, who was handed his ODI debut, went wicketless and conceded 82 runs in nine overs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy returned figures of none for 50 in 6.5 overs.
Earlier, KL Rahul had smashed an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls to propel India to 351 for seven after the hosts were reduced to four for two.
Rahul's explosive innings contained 10 fours and six sixes and came after India suffered a dramatic start, with captain Shubman Gill dismissed for one and Virat Kohli falling for a golden duck.
Rohit Sharma steadied the innings with a 92 off 85 balls, while Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 57 off 69.
Rahul then took charge of the latter half of the innings, building partnerships with the middle and lower order and ensuring India finished with a daunting total.
Naman Dhir struck 30 off 21, while debutant Kamboj added 17 off nine balls.
India's 351, however, proved insufficient as Hope's monumental knock gave West Indies a memorable five-wicket victory and prevented a clean sweep.
India had won the first ODI by eight wickets and repeated the margin in the second match before West Indies produced a remarkable turnaround in the series finale.
The result leaves India sealing series 2-1, while West Indies end with a confidence-boosting win against the hosts ahead of T20I series.
