Yogesh leads Indian gold rush in 200m butterfly at Asian Masters

Bengaluru, Oct 5 (UNI) Yogesh Kumar led a strong Indian showing in the 200m butterfly, winning the men’s 25–29 age-group gold as the 2nd Asian Masters Swimming Championship 2026 witnessed spirited competition across age categories here on Monday.
Yogesh clocked 2:48.00 to finish on top, ahead of Iran’s Mohammadaidinbayat, who secured silver in 2:59.66. India’s Ruban Kumar C completed the podium with a bronze-winning effort of 3:09.66.
India continued its strong run in the men’s events, with Tarun Tokas claiming gold in the 35–39 category in 2:51.39. Satya Prakash Yadav took silver in 3:05.68, while Sagar Badve finished third in 3:28.50.
In the 60–64 category, Manikandan Kandeth added another gold for India, winning in 3:43.39. Samar Basudeb Man finished second in 3:59.57 and Ramesh Chander secured bronze in 4:00.58.
The Indian women also made their mark, led by Thanuja S, who won the 25–29 category in 3:27.37. Sushma S Bharadwaj took silver in 3:41.40, while Thamizhazhagi K finished third in 5:09.57.
In the women’s 35–39 category, Beena S secured gold with a timing of 3:32.28. Sri Lanka’s Thanuja Fernando claimed silver in 4:14.49, while India’s Prachi Kaushal Shah took bronze in 4:18.31.
Lakka Rajini produced another notable performance in the women’s 65–69 category, winning gold in 7:33.14. Celine M C finished just behind her in 7:34.31 to take silver, while Siamala Parambu Veedu secured bronze in 8:20.18.
The championship, being held in Bengaluru, has brought together Masters swimmers from India and across Asia across multiple age groups.
The meet will continue till October 11, celebrating competitive swimming and continued participation in the sport among veteran athletes.
