Sabalenka powers into Wimbledon third round

London, July 2 (UNI) Top seed Aryna Sabalenka showcased her trademark intensity and power as she marched into the third round of Wimbledon 2025 today, defeating Czech player Marie Bouzkova 7-6(4), 6-4 in a spirited Centre Court contest.
With no line judges on court for the first time in Wimbledon history, Centre Court may have felt unusually silent to some, but not with Sabalenka around. Roaring “let’s go” after key points and dominating rallies with blistering groundstrokes, the world No 1 stamped her authority in a match that exemplified her growing hunger for the title.
Sabalenka, a two-time Wimbledon semifinalist (2021, 2023), is making her first appearance at the Championships as the top seed and is now the highest-ranked woman remaining in the draw after early exits of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Qinwen Zheng.
Despite losing serve at 5-6 in the first set, Sabalenka immediately broke back and took control in the tie-break.
The second set was more measured, with Sabalenka maintaining her composure and capitalising on errors from Bouzkova, a former quarterfinalist.
Adding a rockstar edge to the occasion was Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who watched the match from the Royal Box, further elevating the electric atmosphere of Day 3.
Sabalenka, who hit with men’s No 1 Jannik Sinner earlier in the week and shared a light moment dancing on TikTok with Gauff before the tournament, now turns her focus to the next round, where she will face the winner of the Emma Raducanu vs Marketa Vondrousova clash.
With her Grand Slam credentials — three major titles on hard courts — Sabalenka is now aiming to make grass her own. And on the evidence of today’s performance, few would bet against her.
