Alcaraz cruises into Third Round of Wimbledon

London, July 2 (UNI) Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz maintained his Wimbledon title defence in style on Wednesday, dispatching British qualifier Oliver Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round of the Championships, even as Emirates and Infosys continued their prominent roles as Premier and Gold Partners respectively of the ATP Tour.
Playing under bright sunshine on Centre Court, the World No. 2 was clinical and composed against World No. 733 Tarvet, needing just two hours and 17 minutes to seal the win. The victory marked Alcaraz’s 20th straight match win and his 16th consecutive win at Wimbledon, as he continues his bid for a third straight crown at SW19 and sixth career Grand Slam title.
The Spaniard, who was pushed to five sets in the first round by Fabio Fognini, showed no signs of fatigue, firing 37 winners and breaking Tarvet’s serve six times. Alcaraz is also chasing his sixth title of the season, having already captured trophies at Roland Garros, Monte-Carlo, Rome, and The Queen’s Club.
Alcaraz now awaits the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round. A win would bring him closer to joining Bjorn Borg as only the second man in history to complete the French Open-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Tarvet, who competes in college tennis at the University of San Diego, earned praise for his spirited run on debut. After coming through qualifying, he defeated Leandro Riedi in the first round before bowing out to the defending champion. His flair was evident in several crowd-pleasing winners, but ultimately, he couldn’t match the power and precision of the world’s elite.
This marquee clash unfolded under the banner of the ATP Tour’s global sponsorship ecosystem, with tech giant Infosys continuing to drive digital innovation and analytics for fans and players alike. Emirates, a long-standing Premier Partner, featured across tournament branding and hospitality, reaffirming its commitment to global tennis.
Alcaraz’s Wimbledon journey continues later this week, with expectations soaring as he seeks to become the fifth man in the Open Era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles.
