3 killed, 30 injured as bus overturns on Mumbai-Goa highway

Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Three people were killed and over 30 others were injured after a private bus overturned at Karnala Ghat on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, official said here on Monday.

The accident occurred around 11 pm on Sunday near Panvel in Raigad district, as the bus navigated a sharp bend in the hilly stretch.

The private bus carrying 35 passengers from Mumbai to the Konkan region suddenly lost control.

The fire brigade and police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident.

Passengers trapped inside the bus were rescued, and the injured were admitted to MGM Hospital Panvel for treatment.

Among the injured is a child who lost a hand in the impact.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a steep turn in the ghat section, leading to the bus toppling over.

The authorities have confirmed that three individuals lost their lives in the accident.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of night travel through the narrow and winding Karnala Ghat section of the highway, which has witnessed similar mishaps in the past.
