105 passengers apprehended for travelling on footboard, steps of moving trains: Central Railway

Pune, June 27 (UNI) Following the unfortunate incident in Mumbai on June 9, wherein some passengers lost their lives while travelling on the footboards of a local train, the Pune Division of Central Railway launched a special intensive drive to curb such unsafe and life-threatening practices, and apprehended 105 passengers for travelling on the footboard or steps of moving trains.
Travelling on the footboard, steps, roof, or engine of a train is strictly prohibited under Section 156 of the Indian Railways Act, 1989. As per the Act, any person who continues to travel in such prohibited areas even after being warned by a railway servant is liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend up to three months, and a fine which may extend up to 500, or both, said Central Railways in a release.

In addition, such passengers may be removed from the railway premises by the railway authorities.
Strict legal action was initiated against the 105 offenders apprehended during the special drive, and they are being produced before the court for prosecution, said the railways in a release.
