Nagpur, Nov 3 (UNI) A 51-year-old passenger travelling on the AP Express was allegedly rendered unconscious after being served food laced with an intoxicating substance by a fellow passenger, who subsequently escaped with Rs 5.32 lakh in cash and his mobile phone, Railway Police confirmed today.
The victim, identified as Pappu Jagram Rathore, a resident of Morena in Madhya Pradesh, was travelling from Nagpur to Gwalior aboard Train No. 20805 AP Express when the incident occurred .
As per the complaint, an unidentified man, believed to be around 65 years old, boarded the train at Nagpur and struck up a conversation with Rathore. Introducing himself as a passenger bound for Jhansi, the accused allegedly gained his confidence and offered him namkeen, an apple and a laddoo.
After consuming the refreshments, Rathore lost consciousness. The accused allegedly took advantage of his condition and decamped with Rs 5 lakh cash kept in his bag, another Rs 17,000 from his pocket and his mobile phone.
The suspect had fled by the time Rathore regained consciousness. He subsequently approached the police in Gwalior and lodged a complaint.
