Mumbai Police arrest two in elaborate Modelling Photoshoot Fraud

Mumbai, June 13 (UNI) Mumbai Borivali police have arrested two brothers, Jaikishan Omprakash Singh and Bhagatsingh Omprakash Singh, with extensive criminal records, for allegedly duping a woman by promising a modelling opportunity for her 10-year-old daughter.
The accused were apprehended from Malpa Dongri in Andheri, near Vasant Hotel, official confirmed on Friday.
The case was initiated after Charmi Parekh, a resident of Borivali, filed a complaint detailing how she was deceived. Parekh, whose husband works in the stock market, had arranged a professional photoshoot for their daughter and shared the pictures with various modelling agencies.
On March 26, 2025, she received a call from a man claiming to be Jaikishan Singh, who informed her that her daughter had been selected for a prestigious photoshoot with a reputed clothing brand.
Jaikishan demanded payments covering processing fees, clothing, studio access, courier charges, and other expenses, assuring that these would be reimbursed after the shoot. Trusting him, Parekh transferred Rs 28,547 online. However, when she and her daughter arrived at Film City, Goregaon, on April 19, no photoshoot was arranged. Attempts to contact Jaikishan failed as his phone was switched off, prompting her to report the fraud to Borivali Police.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. A thorough investigation traced the accused to their hideout in Andheri. Both brothers confessed to the scam during interrogation.
Further inquiries revealed that Jaikishan and Bhagatsingh have multiple criminal cases across Maharashtra. Jaikishan faces a 2023 murder charge in Dapoli (Ratnagiri) and robbery cases in Sangameshwar, MIDC, and Andheri. Bhagatsingh is implicated in drug offenses, embezzlement, and cyber fraud in Meghwadi, MIDC, and Andheri.
Authorities also discovered that bank accounts used in this scam were linked to similar frauds reported in Nhava Sheva (Navi Mumbai), Rachakonda (Telangana), Coimbatore, and Tambaram (Tamil Nadu), according to the National Cybercrime Portal.
Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigators probe whether they are part of a larger interstate cyber fraud syndicate.
