AMCCIE welcomes GST reforms, urges govt to move towards simpler GST structure

Mumbai, Oct 11 (UNI) The Agrawal Marwadi Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Education (AMCCIE) wholeheartedly welcomed the reform-oriented decisions taken by the GST Council and appreciated the Central Government’s continued efforts to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, improve ease of doing business and strengthen India’s economic growth.
Commenting on the developments, Rajesh Agarwal, National President, AMCCIE, stated that India needs a GST framework that is simple, transparent, business-friendly and growth-oriented, empowering traders, manufacturers, MSMEs, startups and entrepreneurs to contribute more effectively to the nation’s economic progress.
While welcoming the reform initiatives, AMCCIE strongly urged the Central Government and the GST Council to consider a further rationalisation of GST rates into three principal slabs: 0%, 4% and 8%, with suitable exemptions and special treatment wherever necessary, said a release.

The Chamber believed that a simpler, lower-rate GST structure can reduce the tax burden on businesses, encourage voluntary compliance, curb tax evasion, improve consumption and create a more competitive environment for Indian industry and trade.
Agarwal emphasised that the objective of GST reform should not merely be to simplify tax collection, but to create an economic environment in which businesses can grow, consumers benefit, employment expands and government revenues become more sustainable. UNI SP SS
