Sanjay Raut seeks ED probe into alleged Rs 500 crore scam involving Dy CM Shinde, BJP leaders

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has written to union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) into an alleged Rs 500-crore scam involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his son and MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, and senior BJP leaders.
In a two-page letter dated October 26, Raut referred to an audio clip released by Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil on October 20, in which the activist allegedly made claims about the money.
According to Raut, Jarange Patil alleged that before the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shinde had received Rs 500 crore from senior members of the BJP's core team to be handed over to the activist through Dr Shrikant Shinde.
The alleged payment was intended to persuade Jarange Patil to withdraw his agitation for Maratha reservation, Raut claimed. However, the money never reached the activist, he said.
Raut described the allegations as serious and sought an investigation into who provided the money, where it came from and what happened to it.
In his letter, Raut referred to the 2021 allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. Singh had alleged that Deshmukh asked police personnel to collect Rs 100 crore every month. Raut said the ED had investigated that case despite the allegations being disputed.
He argued that the alleged Rs 500-crore transaction also required a detailed probe and urged Shah to direct the Maharashtra Police and the ED to investigate the matter.
Raut demanded that the source of the alleged funds be traced, the movement of the money examined and strict action taken against anyone found guilty.
The allegations against Shinde, his son and BJP leaders have not been independently verified.
