UAE-deported accused in Maharashtra drugs case remanded in police custody

Mumbai, June 14 (UNI) A Special NDPS court on Saturday remanded UAE-deported accused Taher Salim Dola in police custody for his alleged involvement in the Maharashtra Rs 252-crore drugs manufacturing case.
Dola, wanted by the Mumbai police for allegedly operating an illegal Mephedrone manufacturing unit in Sangli, was extradited from UAE on Friday.
Earlier the city police had carried out a major operation to seize Mephedrone (MD) drugs worth Rs 256 crore from a factory in Solapur.
Following this, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a Red Corner Notice against Dola, the prime accused in the case, and arrested him from the United Arab Emirates.
He was brought back to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Friday in coordination with the National Central Bureau in Abu Dhabi, Officials said on Saturday.
The coordinated operation involved close cooperation with the National Central Bureau in Abu Dhabi, leading to Dola’s arrest on January 27 and subsequent extradition to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The investigation was triggered after a woman was arrested in Kurla on February 15, 2024, with 641 grams of Mephedrone.
Following this, raids uncovered three kilograms of the drug in Mira Road and a substantial 126 kilograms at a factory in Kavathemahankal taluka, Solapur. Eleven suspects have been detained so far, including three arrested in Gujarat.
Dola allegedly managed the Solapur factory remotely from overseas, producing approximately 200 kilograms of Mephedrone every ten days over two years.
Alongside the drugs, cash worth Rs 4 crore was seized. The probe also implicated Salim Dola, Taher’s father, in the drug trafficking network.

US consulate receives bomb threat, nothing found
