Rubio urges Israel to crack down on West Bank violence after American journalist beaten

Washington, Oct 18 (UNI) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington is “very disturbed” by the reported beating of American photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank, urging Israel to crack down on settler violence and warning that President Donald Trump wanted to avoid a new crisis in the territory.
“We’ve asked the Israelis and continue to ask them to crack down on that stuff,” Rubio told reporters, adding that the incident is disturbing and that Washington is seeking further information through its embassy.
Rubio said Trump has repeatedly made clear that he did not want to see renewed tensions or a fresh crisis in the West Bank, where violence during the Palestinian olive harvest season has raised concerns.
