Iranian nuclear facilities in Tehran, Karaj damaged in Israeli attacks: IAEA

Vienna/Tehran, June 18 (UNI) Iranian nuclear facilities in Tehran and Karaj where uranium enrichment centrifuges are produced, have reportedly been damaged in Israeli strikes, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said, noting that both sites were overseen by the agency, reports Russian state media TASS.

"At the Tehran site, one building was hit where advanced centrifuge rotors were manufactured and tested. At Karaj, two buildings were destroyed where different centrifuge components were manufactured," the IAEA said on X.

"The IAEA has information that two centrifuge production facilities in Iran, the TESA Karaj workshop and the Tehran Research Centre, were hit. Both sites were previously under IAEA monitoring and verification as part of the JCPOA," its statement reads.

The global body said that while these were not active plants, they were of vital importance to Iran’s nuclear project, with the IDF stating that the targeted centrifuge sites were intended for weapons development, contrary to Tehran’s claims of not developing any nuclear weapons.

The IDF officials noted that the targeted areas had enrichment levels which far surpassed civilian needs.
