Five killed in RSF drone strike on Sudan University dormitory

El-obeid, Sudan Oct 1 (UNI) At least five civilians were killed and 47 others injured on Wednesday when drones operated by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck a dormitory at Kordofan University in the central city of El-Obeid, the Sudan Doctors Network said.
The independent medical group said the initial toll from the strike was five dead and 47 wounded. It described the attack as part of what it said was a continuing campaign of RSF attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure across Sudan, local media reported.
The network said the targeting of student accommodation and educational facilities was a serious violation of international humanitarian law and placed civilian lives at risk.
It also warned of a growing escalation in attacks on civilian and public-service facilities.
The group called on the United Nations and international humanitarian and human rights organisations to condemn attacks on civilian infrastructure, ensure accountability for those responsible and provide urgent medical assistance to those injured and affected.
El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, has been hit by repeated drone attacks in recent months. On Sept. 20, the Sudan Doctors Network said RSF drones struck several residential areas of the city, killing two people and injuring 20 others.
Sudanese authorities and rights groups have repeatedly accused the RSF of attacking civilian facilities. The paramilitary group has generally not responded directly to individual allegations, while saying it is working to protect civilians.
Sudan has been engulfed in fighting between the army and the RSF since April 2023. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions, according to humanitarian agencies.
