Suspect nabbed with 20.150 kg smuggled Kerala cannabis in Sri Lanka

Colombo (Sri Lanka), Mar 27 (UNI) Sri Lanka Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF) seized Kerala cannabis valued over Rs 8 million at Paranthan town in Kilinochchi district late on Wednesday night.
In an official statement issued here on Thursday, the Sri Lankan Navy said that a coordinated search operation mounted by the Navy and Police STF led to the interception of a lorry for smuggling 20.150 kg Kerala cannabis.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old suspect, a resident of Sammanthurai town in Ampara district involved in the smuggling racket.
The search operation was carried out by the Naval Deployment Veththalakerni in the Northern Naval Command with the assistance of Kilinochchi Police STF.
The gross value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be over Rs 8 million.
The arrested person along with the seized narcotic substances and the lorry was handed over to the Kilinochchi police for onward legal proceedings, it added.
