North Korea test fires intermediate range missile capable of evading South Korean & Japanese air defences

Pyongyang, Oct 4 (UNI) North Korea today announced it had test-fired an intermediate-range strategic missile, claiming the weapon manoeuvred around South Korean and Japanese defences by altering its flight path at low altitude.
Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of the DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, said that that the WPK Secretary personally oversaw the test on Saturday. She described the test as "strategic", a term generally associated with weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and claimed it could use a "wave-like" trajectory to evade tracking.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile was launched from the eastern coastal area around Wonsan early Saturday and travelled more than 700 km. Japan's Defence Ministry put the distance at about 680 km and said it fell into waters outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
