Over 11 passenger aircraft across Europe forced to divert from course after suspected bomb threats

Brussels, Nov 5 (UNI) At least 11 passenger aircraft across Europe were diverted or subjected to additional security procedures on Thursday following a series of suspected bomb threats, disrupting air traffic in several countries.
Earlier in the day, the French prime minister's office said an Airbus A320 operated by Aer Lingus, travelling from Dublin to Rome, had been diverted to the French military airbase at Evreux following a bomb alert.
The aircraft landed safely at Evreux, around 100km west of Paris, the Irish airline said.
Flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed the plane turning near Paris and circling over the Evreux area after declaring an in-flight emergency. Rome's Fiumicino Airport was reportedly temporarily closed following the threat.
Just over an hour later, at least 10 other aircraft were affected by similar alerts.
Three planes were diverted to Bulgarian airports, according to local media reports citing government ministers. Two aircraft, travelling from Copenhagen and Madrid, landed in Sofia, while a third flight from London was diverted to Plovdiv, broadcaster bTV and NOVA TV reported.
Separately, a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw landed safely at Brussels Airport following a suspicious report, a source said, confirming Belgian media reports. Airport representatives said no additional security measures were required.
A Finnair aircraft travelling from Helsinki was also escorted by the Italian air force to its scheduled landing in Rome, according to a source familiar with the incident. Another Helsinki flight, operated by Jettime, landed normally in Vienna after receiving a bomb threat, a Finnair spokesperson said.
Four aircraft heading to Prague also received bomb threats, Czech police said on X.
Officers were preparing for their arrival and assessed the credibility of the threats as low, but said they were activating the necessary security procedures.
"Nevertheless, we are not underestimating the threat, which is why all necessary security measures have been activated with minimal impact on passengers and airport operations," police said.
All four aircraft were due to undergo pyrotechnic inspections after landing.
The latest incidents follow a similar series of threats on Tuesday, when at least seven flights and a cruise ship received bomb alerts, disrupting transport operations across Europe. No explosive devices were found.
No country has publicly taken responsibility for the threats, though the incidents have led to many European officials blaming Russian and Iran, amid accusations that both have been conducting so-called hybrid attacks and sabotage operations.
However, both Moscow and Tehran have denied involvement in such campaigns.
Unidentified hackers also disrupted refrigeration systems in supermarkets across several European countries this week.
Some experts have suggested that hoax bomb threats could form part of a broader pattern of relatively inexpensive and difficult-to-trace disruption campaigns.
